Surbhi Gautam, a 24-year-old girl from a village in Uttar Pradesh, has become the toast of the town after she cracked the civil services preliminary examination (IAS) in her first attempt.
Surbhi is from a humble background and belongs to a small village in Kanpur Dehat district. Her father works as an assistant engineer at the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited and her mother is a housewife.
Surbhi scored 97 marks out of 100 in the mains exam conducted by UPSC, which was held on 2022. She was one among the top 100 candidates who cracked this paper. After this, she appeared for an interview where she was selected as one of the top 100 candidates with high marks (97).
In an exclusive interview with India Today tv, Surbhi Gautam said that she is very happy with her success but she knows that it will take a lot more hard work if she wants to achieve something big in life.
A girl from a small village in Uttar Pradesh has become an inspiration for many. She is one of the few women who have cleared the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) examination in her first attempt.
Surbhi Gautam, who hails from the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh, cracked the exam with a score of 97 per cent.
“This year, there were more than 4 lakh aspirants who appeared for this exam and only 1,290 managed to clear it,” says Sanjiv Kumar Bhattacharya, Secretary General of IAS Association.
The exam was conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) at various centres across India. The results were announced on Thursday morning.
“It is a big achievement for me and my family as well,” says Surbhi Gautam who belongs to a village in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh called Deenpur Majhauli near Chhata block.
She completed her schooling from Saraswati Shishu Mandir School in Ghazipur before joining college at Allahabad University where she did her graduation in Political Science and Master’s degree in History with first division marks every time.
